It is said that we all are born with just TWO FEARS baked into us:
- the fear of falling
- the fear of loud noises
As we evolve, we come to recognise our 5 NATURAL EMOTIONS:
- GRIEF — when we lose something, big or small, before we were ready to let it go
- ANGER — when we deal with disappointment
- ENVY — when we want something others have
- FEAR — when there is a threat of pain or danger
- LOVE — when we are expressing, connecting, and belonging
These 5 natural emotions aren’t a problem if they’re simply expressed and pushed out.
The problem occurs when we aren’t allowed to express them.
Then the stuffed emotions distort into unhealthy versions:
- GRIEF......becomes chronic depression
- ANGER....becomes rage
- ENVY.......becomes jealousy
- FEAR.......becomes panic
- LOVE.......becomes possessiveness
Uh oh.
So now you meditate...
...and it can happen that old, lingering, stuffed emotions can bubble up to the surface.
In contrast to what you think meditation “should” feel like, that’s perfectly okay!
If you think about it, it’s actually totally natural for them to bubble up when the body feels safe—like when you meditate and find yourself feeling more relaxed than you can remember being in a long, long time.
There is an inherent healing wisdom within you, and becoming still is how you uncover it.
Like steam rising from a bowl of hot soup, the emotions “burn off" and are momentary.
Healing e-motions
Just by touching the stillness of your soul, the deeper truth of who you are becomes more tangible, more captivating than the old, unhealthy emotions.
The contrast becomes so strong, it makes healing pleasing, graceful, and gentle. It doesn’t have to look a certain way.
In meditation, the watchwords are allow and accept for whatever happens naturally within.
Experiencing emotions during meditation is not a sign of failure, but rather healing “energy in motion”, or healing “e-motions”.
A new way
The emotions you once judged and tried to control, no longer run you.
By allowing the 5 natural emotions to move through, they just don’t develop into the unhealthy versions.
By meditating, you experience something others don’t.
You’re in touch with something that doesn’t come and go. Rather, deeper than all emotions, it keeps you at peace, is always present. You are this.
