The absolute stability of the soul

<...news reports of imminent war...>

I know.  The world isn’t offering up a lot of reasons to feel totally at ease right now, isn’t it?

Even with my monk training under my feet, when I listen to what the talking heads are saying, I would be lying if I said I felt “great” about the state of geopolitics.

In all the outer chaos, it's easy to forget that we have the absolute stability of our soul to rest back into.

Absolute stability!

That confers the power of peace beyond perceptions.

In other words, just because the world’s going crazy right now doesn’t mean you have to.

You get to choose where you’re putting your attention. You get to choose between turmoil or peace.

No, this isn’t about just being calm—as if you could calm your way out of this by calming down your heart rate.

Calm is the level of the body.  Peace is from the level of the soul.

Monumental difference.

Don’t settle for calm when you could have peace.

Nor will calming your body-mind resonate deeply into the one mind we all share.

Nurture your peace.  Then protect your peace.  You’ll be helping others do the same.

So when you feel yourself getting depressed listening to the news, immediately in the moment bring your awareness back to the upward spiraling thoughts of gratitude, love and appreciation.  Over and over.

They have the quality of returning you to the stillness of your soul.  And from there, you'll be on solid footing for what you choose next.

Nurture your peace every day.

Eyes closed, phone off, meditation.
